Simulator Packages
The following are our simulator offerings. You can click the tabs below for more information on our services, or click the 'Live Support' button on the left toolbar to get real time help with package selection.
- Overview
- We offer a variety of hosting packages to meet your needs - each uses the latest versions of the official OpenSimulator and realXtend servers, and we guaruntee all our hosting packages as being powerful enough for solid usage.
- Resource Usage & Measurement
-
We don't believe in billing you off artificial factors. We price each package based on what server resources you actually get - the primary characteristic is RAM usage.
OpenSimulator and realXtend use a minority of processor time, but require large outlays of memory for each simulator. We provide a minimum of 1024 MB on our standard packages - which we think is a good quantity for a power user.
How to Calculate your usage
Visitors
Each visitor to your region will include a base cost of about 20MB, however a small subset of users with high packet loss, or high latency connections may need up to 100MB each (Example, dialup and satellite users). We recommend leaving about 250MB for users.
Texture Cache
The texture cache is a mostly filesystem based cache which stores a local temporary copy of every texture, sound and other unique asset in the region. The more unique texures in the region, and the larger they are - the more that will be used by this.
For an average region, this is usually approximately 50MB. However more intensive regions will naturally use more.
Objects
Primitive Objects, Sculpties require a 'physics mesh' to be stored - this varies depending on the type of object. A simple 'box' primitive (or things derived from boxes) use a tiny amount of resources (max: 50MB per 1,000). Sculpted primitives, Revolutioned-Twisted-Toruses and other more complicated shapes however will use more (varies, but approximately 150MB per 1,000).
Application
This is the base cost for running the OpenSimulator application, Operating System overheads and other 'fixed' memory costs. This takes between 20MB and 60MB, depending on your configuration.
- OpenSimulator & realXtend Disclaimer
-
OpenSimulator and realXtend are both experimental pieces of software. They do from time to time break (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise).
This is why we provide top quality support for our offerings. We have fulltime support availible during America/CST business hours, and additional support periodically outside those hours.
We also test each of our suggested releases before deploying them, and install the latest fixes on a regular basis.
- What hardware do you use?
-
Please take the following with a 'grain of salt', these specifications are subject to change based on a variety of external factors.
We advertise a 'dedicated processor core' and a gigabyte of memory - and will keep that obligation, however the backend hardware may change from time to time as price, performance and customer satisfaction influence our purchasing decisions.

If you are buying a dedicated server from us, please speak to us first if you have a particular configuration or needs in mind. It is possible for us to tweak the specifications of our dedicated servers to more closely match your requirements.
Examples of customisation can include alternate processors, more memory, gigabit network connections.
